During High School, I was the Yearbook Editor, having taken a black and white photography class and having an eye for art, but it all started a bit before this. I took a trip to Oregon with my Mom and used our family camera, an old point and shoot. After high school graduation, my father gave me the best gift ever a Pentax camera and lenses.

I had no idea what was on the horizon when I got requests from a few college friends and coworkers to photograph their wedding. I loved weddings and thought well, at least they will have some memories of their day, because they couldn’t afford a photographer, and so I used these as a few practice runs.

That quickly led to taking lots of photos of my own children and then taking a photography course with via the mail. I photograph my family and children throughout the years and focused on landscape and nature photography. I was so happy when I invested in a better camera and upgraded my lenses. I build my business from home.

After moving to Western Maine and my children moved and started their own lives, I invested time and effort to learn more skills. I joined local photography clubs, started entering competitions, and then joined the Maine Professional Photographers Association to learn more on posing and lighting. I opened a studio for portraits in Farmington, but didn’t have the funding behind me to make a go of it by myself.

Then I ended up outdoors!

I love sunsets and outdoor photography so I put the two together! With my camera in hand, and realized the challenges of late in the day photography and outdoor portraits, but I couldn’t get enough of it.

THE SESSIONS ARE UNIQUE EACH AND EVERY TIME.

Every session throws something new at you. During a beach session, the tide, wind, the clouds, and crowds can be challenging. Every evening at the lake shore holds its own set of obstacles, every walk in the woods, or overlook sessions, waterfall, or park session is different, and I love that, and it is because of the light and weather that is always changing! And I have strategies!

I’m confident that I can produce a great set of images unless it’s pouring down rain. (Then we reschedule.)
